Dick Manley, 95, Dies

In the wake of Hurricane Florence and the flooding that is to come, immediate arrangements cannot be made to bid Dick a fond farewell. Below is a note we received from his son, Roger. We will notify folks as soon as arrangements can be finalized. In the interim, please be in prayer for Roger and Mark.

Announcement about Richard Manley
Dear Friend, Please forgive this impersonal message—I am trying to reach as many of my parents’ friends as I can, to let them know that my father, Richard Manley (husband of the late Zora Manley), passed away at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC, this past Wednesday morning, September 12 (the day after his 95th birthday). He died at peace and in no pain at all, for which my brother Mark and I are very grateful. We are greatly saddened by our loss, but comforted by the thought that he is once more hand-in-hand with our mother, his beloved wife, and in the presence of the Lord. I’ve had to comb through old Christmas cards, stacks of letters, and my dad’s random notes to try to unearth as many friends’ names as I could find, so I may not have located addresses (or even the most up-to-date addresses) for all his friends. Therefore I would truly appreciate it if you’d pass this news along to any other friends you shared in common with my parents. Please explain the situation, too, so anyone I didn’t contact won’t think it was intentional. The funeral service will be held at Madison Avenue Baptist Church (300 S. Madison Ave, Goldsboro, NC 27530), but as I write this (on Sunday morning, September 16) we can’t confirm the time and date yet, because we have to wait for the ground to dry out enough for the cemetery crew (at Wayne Memorial Park, Dudley) to be able prepare his resting place. We hope to have the service begin at 10a.m. Saturday morning, September 22, but please contact Seymour Funeral Home (919-734-1761) or the church office (919-734-3761) during its normal hours to confirm that date before making any plans. I regret this highly unusual circumstance and any inconvenience it may cause, and of course we’ll understand completely if you can’t make it. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that anyone who wishes to do so please send a donation to Madison Avenue Baptist Church instead. love, Roger Manley
